Midway College was established in 1847 by Dr. Lewis L. Pinkerton and Mr. James Ware Parrish. Originally named Kentucky Female Orphan School, the purpose of the institution was to prepare financially disadvantaged young females for teaching careers.
In the years since its inception, the institution has evolved to meet the educational needs of students, while preserving the goals and standards of its founders. Today, Midway College has achieved its goal of excellence in education, providing advanced instruction in a broad range of subjects based upon a strong curriculum, including the highly successful nursing program and the innovative equine studies program.
Midway College continues to serve as Kentucky’s only college for women, fulfilling a unique role in the education of contemporary women. In addition, adult men and women can take advantage of the high quality, accelerated degree completion programs offered by Midway College through the evening and weekend School for Career Development and Midway College Online. Midway College also offers an accelerated Master’s of Business Administration through its new Graduate College.
