Meet Knox Steinbrecher from Marietta, GA

We're delighted that Knox will make the trip from Georgia to join us again this year. Knox makes functional pottery, usually on the potter's wheel but sometimes completely by hand. She often embellishes the pots with hand-built appendages, sometimes with batik stamps or with stamps that she has made from clay or other found objects. She fires in an oxidation kiln using glazes she makes herself...and, says Knox, "I
cross my fingers while the pots are firing."

"I love the feel and the smell of wet clay," she says. "It reminds me of my childhood and days spent lying on the dock at the edge of a small lake in Upstate New York, watching dragonflies, listening to the loons, and smelling the fragrance of the water lilies mixed with the earthy smell of the water's edge."

"The silky wet clay passes through my fingers on the way to becoming. What shall it be today? Will it be a mug to be cradled on a chilly evening? Perhaps it will be a large bowl for popcorn or for a salad to be shared with family and friends. I get to choose for at this moment I am the Goddess of Mud.

I value craftsmanship. I value things made by hand and the imperfection that only the human touch can create....so perfect in its imperfection"

Knox does her brushwork with handmade brushes - her favorite is foxtail. She is currently testing ways to incorporate glass in her work.

It is customary for juried arts events to restrict artists' exhibits to only the work accepted by the jury. At Francisco's Farm we recognize that artists are engaged in continuous growth and evolution in their work. They may be working in a media new to them, or creating experimental art that hasn't yet been submitted to a jury. We celebrate the professional growth of our exhibitors by encouraging them to bring their latest creations. We trust our exhibitors to bring only their highest quality work, and our visitors are treated to many delightful discoveries!

Thanks for reading, and plan to come meet Knox this June!
