Meet Carol Clay - Hand-Weaver
"The way colors interplay is what gives me the greatest joy in my work", says Carol Clay of Greensboro, NC. Carol has been in business as 'Arachne by Carol Clay' for over ten years.
Carol's mohair throws are woven in a twill variation thus ensuring a soft, luxurious hand and rich luster. She uses a minimum of 25 colors in every warp, so that each handwoven throw accommodates a wide variety of decorating styles and color palettes. Mohair, comprising 75% of her throws, is lightweight, yet much warmer and far more durable than wool or other fibers. The remaining 25% is comprised of a mixture of wool, silk, cotton and rayon.
In addition to her throws, Carol also designs and weaves wearable accessories including cotton scarves, mohair scarves, mohair hats, and rayon stoles.
A juried member of Ohio Designer Craftsmen, Carol has exhibited at numerous shows including St. James (10yrs on St James Court), Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts (10yrs), the Gainesville, Florida Downtown Festival & Art Show, Columbus, Ohio Winterfair, and the Cincinnati Summerfair.
"My desire as a weaver is to create in woven form the joys inherent in the complexity of color found in nature," says Carol. "Whether it is the many gradations found in a single vegetable or the cacophony of hues in an entire landscape, color both sets my heart on fire and soothes my soul. Through weaving I hope to share with others the lightness of heart that color gives to me."
"I feel we each have a moral obligation to increase our capacity for joy and beauty," says Carol.
I couldn't agree more.

UPCOMING EVENT ~ JOIN US!
Sunday, June 7th ~ 5pm ~
"First Look: Francisco's Farm Arts Festival"
at First United Methodist Church ~ 211 Washington Street ~ Frankfort
FUMC sees art as one of its community services and a new facility has designated space for featuring art exhibits and events. They've chosen a selection of our 2009 exhibitors to present at their "First at First: An Evening of the Arts" series, which includes a jazz service.
I will be on hand to talk about the exhibit and the Festival before the service. The exhibit will be installed on May 17th and will remain up until the Closing Reception on June 25th ~ 5pm to 7pm.
PPS - Help This Art Festival THRIVE!
This fundraiser continues year-round. You absolutely would not believe how much you can help us just by using a Kroger Gift Card.
Many non-profit organizations and schools earn money through this program, and we've joined them!
Order your Gift Card today. Mail a check for $5 and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Francisco's Farm at the address below, and I'll send your card (preloaded with $5) and complete instructions. Each time you recharge (add money to) the card, Kroger will donate cash to the Festival.
When you order a Gift Card we'll put your name in the FarmBucks Drawing. One lucky winner, drawn before the Festival, will receive $100 in FarmBucks to spend on art at the Festival. AND every time your recharges total $500, we'll put your name in the drawing again! We'll continue this drawing for 2010.
Magnify your efforts by encouraging friends and family to order Gift Cards, too! There is no limit to the number of cards we can distribute or the amount of money we can earn.
